Bournemouth are engaged in negotiations to land Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva, with the transfer expected to reach completion in the near future.
The 22-year-old Portuguese defender has been part of Benfica's senior squad since 2022 but has seen his standing diminish at the club. During last season under Jose Mourinho, Silva managed only 20 starts across 25 Liga Portugal appearances, finding himself behind Nicolas Otamendi and Tomas Araujo in the defensive hierarchy.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, discussions between Bournemouth and the player are underway, and a deal is anticipated to be wrapped up shortly.
Silva reportedly turned down the opportunity to extend his contract at Benfica, opting instead to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere. With just one year remaining on his current terms, the Cherries view him as the ideal replacement for Marcos Senesi.
The transfer is understood to be valued at approximately ยฃ21.3 million for the young defender as Bournemouth look to strengthen their backline ahead of the Premier League campaign.
