Aberdeen has officially secured the services of German goalkeeper Marius Muller, with the 33-year-old signing a two-year deal at Pittodrie after making the switch from Wolfsburg.
Muller, who hopes to 'have plenty to celebrate' during his tenure, expressed his immediate impressions to club media, stating, 'It feels nice to be here. It's all moved very quickly, but I'm happy to be in Scotland.'
The seasoned custodian is eager to contribute his vast experience and strong mentality to the team. 'I hope to bring quality to the team through my experience and mentality. As a goalkeeper, you know the moments when you have to stay calm and help to lead the team,' Muller explained. He also emphasized the importance of unity, adding, 'We have to be one team โ the players and the supporters in the stands. I hope they will see that I will give my all. They will see that I love to celebrate with them. I want to see a lot of fireworks this season. I hope we have plenty to celebrate and we'll see what the season brings.'
Before finalising his move, Muller consulted fellow German Denis Geiger, a midfielder who spent last season on loan at Pittodrie. Muller's extensive career began at Kaiserslautern and includes spells at Red Bull Leipzig and Schalke in his homeland. He also spent four years with Swiss club Luzern, where he notably won the Swiss Cup in 2021.
Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson lauded his new acquisition, highlighting Muller as 'an experienced goalkeeper who has consistently performed at a high level throughout his career.' Robinson believes Muller 'will add real competition, experience and leadership to our goalkeeping group,' concluding that 'his character and professionalism will be a real asset to the squad, both on and off the pitch.'
