Instead, Sulc remained at the French club, leaving many to wonder about the reasoning behind a decision that bypassed such significant financial incentives.
When discussing the offer with Wrexham, Sulc acknowledged the club's unique appeal while being candid about his reservations. "Wrexham is a cult club with a Hollywood fairytale story," the 25-year-old remarked in an interview with Seznam Zpravy, referencing the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who have guided the club through three promotions from the National League since their 2021 takeover. However, Sulc articulated a clear preference for remaining in more established, cosmopolitan settings. "I didn't feel like going to the Championship or a small town in Wales," he explained, noting that Wrexham's built-up area population of around 45,000 simply did not align with his personal preferences. For context, Wrexham's offer eclipsed Anthony Patterson's arrival from Sunderland in August, which established the previous club record at a reported £10 million including performance clauses.
The midfielder's summer was characterized by speculation surrounding potential departures, with several elite European clubs expressing interest. Juventus and Leeds United both reportedly tracked the player, though none of these opportunities materialized into concrete offers that satisfied Lyon's valuation.
