Yet her opening weeks in the Women's Super League have exposed the difficulties of implementing such an ambitious system at a new club. While a dominant 10-1 demolition of Sheffield United in the League Cup on Wednesday hinted at progress, Olid's league campaign began with a 2-1 loss to London City Lionesses followed by a crushing 5-0 defeat to Chelsea. A 1-1 draw with Arsenal provided some respite, though it revealed a more cautious approach than supporters might have anticipated from a manager known for her attacking ideals.
The tactical shift Olid has introduced represents a significant departure from the blueprint left by predecessor Marc Skinner. Where Skinner favored a stretched, symmetrical 3-2-2-3 formation with fixed player positions and number 10s stationed high in dangerous pockets, Olid has constructed a more fluid 4-2 or 3-2 build-up base that emphasizes central overloads and dynamic movement.
