Noni Madueke emerged from the bench to break the deadlock and secure a crucial victory for Arsenal as the champions squeezed past Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. In what proved to be a dull contest with few clear openings, the encounter turned when the winger was introduced at half-time in place of Eberechi Eze to inject energy and spark into the visitors' attack.
The breakthrough finally arrived with just 10 minutes remaining on the clock. Declan Rice, who had earlier missed a big opportunity despite a powerful running performance in midfield, played the ball to Madueke, whose strike clipped Forest defender Jair Cunha and flew past Matz Sels. Up until that moment, Sels had remained untroubled in goal, as Arsenal struggled to penetrate Oliver Glasnerโs deep-sitting defense despite dangerous crosses from Bukayo Saka and adventurous forward runs by Riccardo Calafiori.
Nottingham Forest had worked tirelessly to earn a positive result, with summer signing Ousmane Diomande impressing in only his fourth Premier League start. Competing without the injured Morgan Gibbs-White, the creative onus fell upon James McAtee, while Daniel Munoz tested David Raya in the opening half and Dan Ndoye dragged an early effort wide. In attack, Liam Delap maintained an unrelenting physical duel against Gabriel Magalhaes and Ezri Konsa, while defender Murillo overcame a first-half head knock to nearly produce an injury-time equalizer following a display of great skill.
However, Arsenal held firm to seal the clean sheet, underpinned by a brilliant last-ditch tackle from Konsa to halt Delap in stoppage time. Following late changes that saw Viktor Gyokeres, Mikel Merino, and Jurrien Timber feature for the visitors, along with late Forest introductions for Chris Wood and Callum Hudson-Odoi, the champions successfully saw out the closing stages to take all three points.
