The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has officially invited broadcasters to submit bids for the UK rights to televise Scottish Premiership fixtures starting from the 2029-30 campaign. League officials have formally started the process well in advance, stating that they anticipate high demand from television networks looking to secure coverage of Scotland's top flight.
Currently, the league is operating under a five-year, ยฃ150m agreement with Sky Sports that began last term and is scheduled to run through the end of the 2028-29 season. Under the terms of that ongoing arrangement, Sky Sports is permitted to broadcast up to 60 live matches per campaign. In addition to that package, Premier Sports also holds the rights to broadcast up to 22 Scottish top-flight matches each season.
Addressing the upcoming tender, the SPFL noted that it is "flexible about the number of games that it shows live in future." SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster underscored the financial importance of the upcoming sale, outlining the vital role broadcast revenue plays across the division.
"Securing strong broadcast partnerships is an essential element in maintaining a balanced and sustainable income mix for the SPFL and its clubs," said Doncaster. "We anticipate strong interest from broadcasters in what is widely recognised as one of Europe's most exciting national league competitions."
Looking ahead, the league confirmed that its wider media portfolio remains stable, noting that an independent arrangement with Premier Sports will not be affected by the new Premiership tender. That separate agreement, which encompasses both the broadcast and sponsorship rights for the Scottish League Cup, is contracted to run until at least the conclusion of the 2030-31 season.
