Disciplinary regulations in the Champions League stipulate that any player who collects four yellow cards will receive a one-match ban. Arsenal forward Kai Havertz is among the players who have already received a yellow card during this season's Champions League campaign as teams compete across the tournament.
The four-card threshold remains in effect from the beginning of the league phase until the end of the quarter-finals. Following the conclusion of the quarter-finals, all yellow cards are wiped out, ensuring that players cannot be suspended for multiple yellow cards beyond that point. The exact same disciplinary rules also apply to both the Europa League and the Conference League.
The regulations outline further penalties for individuals who repeatedly receive cautions. Beyond the initial four bookings, players can also be suspended if they pick up six, eight, or 10 yellow cards. A one-match suspension will be issued each time a player hits an even number of yellow cards above four.
Following the opening two rounds of the Champions League, five players have picked up two yellow cards and enter this week's third round of matches just two cautions away from serving a one-match ban. Those five players are Armando Obispo and Serginio Dest of PSV Eindhoven, Hakan Calhanoglu of Inter Milan, Jan Virgili of Club Brugge, and Marlon Gomes of Shakhtar Donetsk.
