Paris St-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during his team's 4-2 win against Barcelona on Tuesday. The significant injury blow came during what was the 25-year-old's first start of the campaign in the UEFA Champions League.
The Georgia international suffered the injury in a challenge involving Xavi Espart during the European encounter. Kvaratskhelia was unable to put weight on his right leg before being substituted off in the 59th minute at the Parc des Princes. PSG have not set a specific timeline for when the winger might make his return to action.
The long-term layoff is an unfortunate halt for Kvaratskhelia, who has featured 11 times for PSG this season after arriving in the French capital from Napoli in January 2025. Following that transfer, the forward helped PSG claim back-to-back Champions League titles. Making matters worse on the injury front, the club also confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will both be sidelined for a "few weeks". Dembele limped off during the match with a left thigh problem, while Marquinhos picked up an injury to his right thigh.
Despite the severe injury setbacks, the hosts managed to secure a positive outcome against their Spanish opponents. The contest between PSG and Barcelona was tied at 2-2 entering the final 10 minutes before the home side scored two late goals. The victory maintains PSG's winning start to their Champions League defence, keeping them top of the table with three wins from three matches.
