Barcelona have officially reported Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA after a banner that the Catalan club state "incites violence and hatred in sport" was unveiled prior to Tuesday's Champions League encounter at Parc des Princes. The Spanish side strongly condemned the actions of the Parisian supporters following the display in the stands before kick-off.
The incident occurred when PSG supporters located behind one of the goals revealed a tifo depicting a masked individual in a PSG shirt attacking and destroying the Barcelona badge with a chainsaw. Beneath the illustration, the phrase "massacre, Parisian style" was written in French, while further banners displaying explicit messages were also visible throughout the fixture. On the pitch, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 4-2 victory to make it three wins in their Champions League defence, handing Barcelona their first European defeat of the campaign after opening with two wins.
In an official statement issued to BBC Sport, Barcelona condemned the demonstration in strong terms, describing the depiction of a blood-covered chainsaw striking their crest as deeply disturbing. Club officials stated that such imagery and messaging are entirely unacceptable and violate the core values of fair play, sportsmanship, and respect, underscoring that football must remain a platform for passion and healthy competition rather than hatred or violence.
PSG could now potentially face sanctions under Article 16 of UEFA's disciplinary regulations, which bans the use of words, objects, gestures, or other mediums to convey provocative messages unsuitable for sporting events. A first offence under this rule can lead to disciplinary penalties, including a fine of 10,000 euros (ยฃ8,381). Following the formal complaint, comments have been requested from both UEFA and Paris Saint-Germain.
