Nicolas Raskin has revealed he is "really happy" at Rangers, although he remains uncertain about what the January transfer window might bring. The 25-year-old Belgium midfielder netted his first goal of the season during last weekend's 2-2 draw against Dundee, having now started in each of Rangers' past seven matches following a summer window marked by departure rumors and time spent out of the team.
Since completing his move to Rangers in January 2023, the midfielder has accumulated more than 150 club appearances and earned 22 caps for Belgium. Reflecting on refocusing after the World Cup and navigating transfer speculation, Raskin admitted he considered seeking a new challenge to match his ambition, but never agitated for a transfer. "The hardest was not being able to play. Watching the boys playing, this is probably the hardest bit I've been through during the window," Raskin explained, adding that the club aided his journey into the national squad. Addressing the prospect of agreeing a contract extension before the end of next season, he stated: "I don't know, it's not up to me. It's up to the club."
Manager Derek McInnes underlined Raskin's importance, confirming that the club has no desire to sanction an exit in January. McInnes stated he would gladly work with Raskin beyond his current contract, highlighting that while winter bids can sometimes exceed a player's valuation, Raskin rejected late opportunities to move in order to remain part of a winning side. "We're not looking to lose players in January and Nico's been a key player for us and hopefully he's a key player in a successful Rangers team this season," McInnes said.
For now, Raskin remains focused on securing positive results, stating that the manager has been "amazing" with him and that the squad will try to win as many games as possible before January. Rangers now turn their attention to Saturday's Scottish Premiership fixture against visiting St Johnstone, although McInnes confirmed preparations have been disrupted by a sickness bug that could rule out two regular starting players.
