AFC Wimbledon assistant manager Terry Skiverton has been diagnosed with throat cancer and is scheduled to begin treatment in the coming weeks, the League One club has confirmed. The 51-year-old coach is now preparing for the next phase of his medical care following the announcement.
The diagnosis comes after an already difficult stretch for Skiverton regarding his personal well-being. In July, he announced that he would be taking time away from his coaching duties in order to recuperate from ankle surgery, with the club confirming that he has faced further health challenges in the period since.
Throughout his recent health difficulties, Skiverton has been assisted by the wider football community. A statement released by AFC Wimbledon said: "Terry has been receiving valuable support from the League Managers Association (LMA) in recent months, and the club will continue to stand alongside him and his family throughout his treatment and recovery." The club further added: "Everyone at AFC Wimbledon sends Terry their heartfelt best wishes as he prepares for the next stage of his treatment."
Skiverton initially arrived at AFC Wimbledon in May 2022 to take up the role of assistant to manager Johnnie Jackson. Together, the coaching pair achieved significant success on the pitch, with Skiverton helping guide the club to promotion into League One via the play-offs in 2025 as he now turns his focus toward his upcoming treatment and recovery.
