Manchester United endured another desperate afternoon at Old Trafford as Bournemouth cruised to a comprehensive 3-0 victory, marking the Cherries' third triumph at the ground in four years. In a dramatic tactical choice, United manager Michael Carrick relegated captain Bruno Fernandes to the bench and left him unused throughout the encounter, later confirming that the Portuguese midfielder was fully fit and available to play.
With Fernandes sidelined, Harry Maguire stepped up to reclaim the captain's armband previously taken from him by Erik ten Hag. Maguire produced an early block to deny Rayan, but the visitors eventually broke through following a costly defensive error. Ayden Heaven received a yellow card after diving into a challenge that Evanilson leaped to avoid, and Justin Kluivert delivered a brilliant free-kick from the subsequent dead ball for Rayan to strike home with a superb first-time finish.
United's afternoon deteriorated further as errors compounded across the pitch. After Youri Tielemans was hauled off at the interval following an insecure display in possession, Leny Yoro slipped in the second half, allowing Adrien Truffert to pounce and tee up Marcus Tavernier for the easiest of finishes. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens then committed a massive blunder to hand Evanilson—who had earlier seen a strike chalked off for offside—Bournemouth's third goal with a brilliant finish.
Carrick turned to substitutes Matheus Cunha, Lisandro Martinez, Joshua Zirkzee, and Shea Lacey in search of a response, but Bryan Mbeumo was denied by Cherries keeper Dorde Petrovic and Cunha curled an effort off target. Following the final whistle, Carrick confessed he was left saddened by the club's current situation after seeing his side completely dismantled on home turf.
