Former Burnley and England forward Jay Rodriguez has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37. The veteran striker, who amassed more than 250 Premier League appearances over the course of his career, steps away from the pitch after a final campaign that concluded with Wrexham.
Rodriguez initially developed his career at his hometown club, Burnley, before securing a transfer to Southampton in 2012. Following an intervening stint with West Bromwich Albion, he secured a return to Turf Moor in 2019. Across his two separate tenures representing the Clarets, the attacker featured in 311 games and twice achieved promotion to the Premier League.
His spell with Southampton marked several standout milestones, highlighted by an invitation to the international stage. In 2013, Rodriguez earned his solitary England cap during a friendly against Chile played at Wembley. In addition to his international appearance, he helped guide the Saints into the 2016-17 EFL Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated by Manchester United.
The forward spent the closing stretch of his playing days in Wales, making 25 appearances for Wrexham. During that final chapter, he contributed to the squad's successful push to win promotion from League One in 2025. After remaining without a club since his departure from the Welsh side in the summer, Rodriguez has now officially concluded his time on the pitch.
