Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon has given England a precious lead against Argentina in their World Cup semi-final, netting his first goal of the tournament in clinical fashion.
The 25-year-old, who completed a move from Newcastle to Barcelona earlier in the summer, was in the right place at the right time to finish off a sweeping team move and put England in the driving seat.
The goal originated with Harry Kane, who launched a sublime ball over the top of Argentina's defensive line. Though the initial pass was cleared, it dropped kindly to Declan Rice, who quickly shifted the ball wide to Morgan Rogers on the right flank.
Rogers then delivered a superb cross whipped across the face of Argentina's goal, and Gordon reacted sharply, beating his marker to the ball and slotting it past Emiliano Martinez in the Argentine net.
The strike takes Gordon to four goal contributions in the tournament, underlining his growing importance to England's World Cup campaign as they bid to reach the final.
