Peterborough United chairman and majority owner Darragh MacAnthony has promised to put his 75% stake in the club up for sale in February if the side is not sitting in the top 10 of League One by then. MacAnthony made the pledge on social media platform X following Posh's 2-0 defeat away against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup last-16.
Addressing supporters, MacAnthony accepted "full responsibility" for the squads constructed across his 20-year spell owning the club, yet insisted he retains high hopes for the current group. Backing new manager Robbie Savage to "bring the best out of them" with the board's support, MacAnthony reiterated his vow of honesty to fans, promising that if the squad fails to secure a top-10 place by February, he will sell his share and allow others to take over the baton.
Savage was appointed earlier this month after Luke Williams was sacked in September, and began his tenure with consecutive victories, including a 3-1 away triumph at Leicester City. However, Peterborough have since hit a downturn and are now winless in their last four matches across all competitions. That run leaves Posh 21st in the League One standings, sitting one point from safety after 12 matches.
MacAnthony, whose connection with Peterborough began in 2006, previously sold half of his stake in 2018 to Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson via their Canadian enterprise, Kelgary Sports and Entertainment. He reinstated his position as sole majority shareholder five years later when they departed the board. Posh will seek to ignite their climb up the table on Saturday when they host Luton Town.
