Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is in a stable condition in intensive care after sustaining severe injuries during a Spanish second division fixture on Monday. The 30-year-old forward suffered damage to his head and chest in the closing moments of his club's home match against Andorra, which was being played at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.
The incident occurred seven minutes into stoppage time with the score level at 2-2. Visiting goalkeeper Jesus Owono had rushed toward the centre circle attempting to clear a long ball when his knee appeared to collide with the Madrid-born attacker. De Miguel lay motionless on the pitch as medical personnel provided urgent care before he was transferred into an ambulance.
According to reports in the Spanish media, including Marca, De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while inside the ambulance and had to be resuscitated by paramedics on the journey to the hospital. The distressing scenes left players from both teams visibly shaken, with several of De Miguel's team-mates reduced to tears. Following the collision, the referee dismissed Owono with a straight red card and subsequently abandoned the match.
De Miguel was taken to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria, with a Tenerife club statement confirming he remains "stable despite the severity of his condition." Opponents Andorra also shared an official message of support, stating: "We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today's match. We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family and Tenerife."
