Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that Jack Grealish will remain on the sidelines for Friday's Premier League fixture against Coventry. The 31-year-old midfielder, currently on loan from Manchester City, continues to be left out of the team following what has been termed a "breach of club discipline."
The issue is understood to have stemmed from an unauthorised absence from training, which previously led to Grealish missing Everton's two recent matches against Newcastle in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. While the club stated that the player missed Monday's victory at St James' Park due to a lack of fitnessโa matter Moyes declined to comment on at the timeโthe manager addressed the player's status on Thursday ahead of hosting Coventry. "No, Jack is not available," Moyes said. "I wouldn't give you the plan but we will be working with Jack again soon."
Grealish has been aiming to rebuild his career on Merseyside after falling out of favour at Manchester City, who paid ยฃ100m for his services in 2021. The midfielder played an important part in City's 2022-23 Treble-winning campaign and is scheduled to be out of contract at the conclusion of the current season. During his first temporary spell at Everton last season, he scored twice in 22 appearances before an injury curtailed his campaign. After returning for a second loan spell, he had featured just six times before losing his spot, with his most recent outing occurring on 17 October in a home loss against Chelsea.
Despite the recent disciplinary troubles, Moyes noted following the win over Newcastle that Grealish still has a future at the club, even though a clear date for his return was not established. When asked whether the impending international break would offer Everton a window to settle the dispute, Moyes said: "We just need to wait and see how things go."
