England captain Harry Kane has admitted he is uncertain whether the 2026 World Cup was his final appearance on the global stage, following his side's heartbreaking 2-1 semi-final loss to Argentina.
The 32-year-old finished the tournament as England's joint top scorer alongside Jude Bellingham, netting six goals across the competition. However, against Argentina, Kane struggled to make his mark, failing to register a single touch inside the opposition penalty box.
England had taken the lead through Anthony Gordon's 55th minute strike, but a series of baffling decisions from manager Thomas Tuchel allowed Lionel Messi and Argentina to seize control of the match and ultimately turn the tie around.
When asked by reporters after the defeat whether this was his last World Cup, Kane refused to commit either way.
"It's still too early to say. I take it year by year and see how I feel. I love playing for England," the captain said.
"But of course, four years is a long time. Then again, you can see someone like Messi still performing at the highest level even at an older age. I honestly don't know."
Kane's comments suggest he is not ready to close the chapter on his international career just yet, though the reality of time remains a factor as he weighs up his future with the Three Lions.
